ITechLaw delivers a successful World Technology Law Conference in Miami, Florida, USA; 97% of attendees would recommend the conference to a colleague

On May 18-20, 2016, the ITechLaw Association hosted more than 200 attendees at the World Technology Law Conference in Miami, Florida. With attendees from 38 countries and 5 continents, the event was a mix of education, networking, and fun. View event photos and read highlights below. The two-day event started with an energetic opening reception at the Mandarin Oriental. Attendees had the opportunity to meet ITechLaw President Susan Barty, board members, ITechLaw staff, including Emily Reineke the new Managing Director, and new colleagues.

EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS

During nine educational sessions, attendees heard from leading lawyers, in-house counsel, and academics about the current issues in technology law. The highest rated session, New Products and the Legal Issues They Raise, kicked off with an academic presentation on artificial intelligence and was followed with the implications of AI on autonomous and semi-autonomous systems, e-textiles, car-sharing, and children’s toys.

GALA DINNER

Attendees gathered at the historic Alfred I. Dupont Building to enjoy a first-class evening. The building, a former bank headquarters, was complete with hand painted Cypress wood ceilings, detailed scroll work, and lavish brass gates – it is one of Miami’s finest locations. The gala was the highest class event of the conference.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS

From I-WIN and In-House Counsel to Cyber Crime and Outsourcing, committee meetings provided opportunity for leading lawyers to advance special interest topics. Many committees are planning webinars this year, so watch your email for details.

INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP

One session this year, hosted by the Cyber Crime and Data Protection Committees, simulated a data breach and attendees played active participants in how the breach was managed. It was a unique session, and based on attendee feedback, we are looking to integrate live polling into future conference sessions.

CLOSING RECEPTION

The conference closed with a reception at the world famous Ball & Chain restaurant in Little Havana. Attendees had an authentic Miami experience as they sipped cocktails outside on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful Miami weather. It perfectly punctuated two days of learning and networking.
