DUTY OF CARE AND COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Is ITechLaw taking preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19?

The International Technology Law Association (“ITechLaw”) is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all 2023 European Conference participants. Our decisions and preventive measures will be guided by the requirements and recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Government of the Netherlands, the World Health Organization (WHO), and local health authorities. The responsibility for a safe and healthy event environment (Duty of Care) is shared among the event organizer, venues, and every participant. All 2023 European Conference participants are expected to adhere to and abide by the safety precautions ITechLaw is implementing to protect against the spread of COVID-19.

DRESS CODE

What is the dress code for the 2023 European Conference?

Business attire is encouraged for all meetings and events. For those attending the Gala Reception and Dinner, cocktail, and black-tie attire is recommended. (Gala tickets must be purchased in advance at the time of registering.)

INTERNET ACCESS

Will I have Internet access while at the conference?

Wireless access will be available throughout the conference. Instructions to connect to Wi-Fi will be provided onsite.

VAT QUESTIONS

Do I need to pay VAT if I am not from the Netherlands?

Yes, VAT on admissions to the event is chargeable to all attendees for a Dutch event (except for Dutch-established taxable persons who will self-account for the VAT under the reverse charge mechanism). You can sometimes claim back VAT on goods bought in a country which you subsequently export (e.g., as someone on holiday who will subsequently take the goods outside the VAT territory in their luggage)  but not on a supply of admissions to an event (a supply of services which falls under the exceptions to the general place of supply rule, i.e., taxable where the service takes place, rather than where the customer is established).

Recovery of Dutch VAT may be done via one of two ways:

  1. I have a Dutch VAT Number - submit a Dutch VAT return
  2. I do not have a Dutch VAT Number - Submit a 13th Directive recovery claim to the Dutch tax authority.
