Computer crimes may be a federal offense, and a number of statutes prohibit both general and specific actions towards computers. The United States government is particularly concerned with the protection of National Security Information. Any attempt to access such information may be punishable under 18 U.S.C. § 1030(a)(1) or other counterespionage statutes.
