A resident of South Carolina who is injured in cases of a data breach may bring a civil action themselves. Moreover, the Department of Consumer Affairs may assess administrative fines. For each resident whose information was accessible by reason of the breach (but not necessarily subject to the breach itself), the fine may be a maximum of $1000.
