Survey Answer:
The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709) ("PDPA") is the Malaysian Act of Parliament specifically enacted to regulate processing of personal data in the context of commercial transactions.
All companies/organisations that process personal data or have control over or authorise the processing of personal data (i.e. "data users" under the PDPA) are required to comply with the requirements under the PDPA, including minimum security standards set out under the Personal Data Protection Standards 2015 ("PDPA Standards").
Further to the above, there are sector-specific personal data protection mandatory codes of practice in Malaysia (e.g. codes of practice for the banking/financial industry, insurance/takaful industry).
