CANCELLED: 2020 World Technology Law Conference

Denver, United States

You are here

March 20, 2020

Dear colleagues:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of this year’s World Technology Law Conference in Denver, scheduled for May 20-22, 2020. This is an enormous disappointment to us, and to many of you who have already arranged to join us. This conference means a lot to us an organization and to you as attendees.

The decision has not been made lightly, and we are doing so with your best interest and safety in mind. Each day as the situation unfolds, we receive more news urging social distancing and event cancellation. On March 16, the United States Centers for Disease Control issued guidance urging events of more than 50 people to cancel. As you know, our conference brings together well over 200 guests from more than 40 countries, and given these overriding public health and safety priorities, we simply cannot proceed with the Denver conference.

While a few weeks ago we were optimistic that May was far enough away for us to meet with enhanced cleaning and safety protocols in place, that is no longer the case. In an ideal world, we would wait and see how the coming weeks unfold, but that is not fair to the attendees, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors who have been investing their time and resources into making this a successful conference.  If you have already registered as an attendee, sponsor, or speaker, for the conference, we will be in touch with you directly about refunds and next steps.

Serving your needs as international technology lawyers
Leveraging some of the extraordinary programming efforts already well underway for our Denver conference, we will be working to bring you some of the planned conference sessions virtually. While this doesn’t replace the energy and networking of an in-person conference, we hope it still provides connection to other ITechLaw members and the CLE credits you need.

In addition, in support of the ITechLaw membership base:

  • we have set up a COVID-19 hub and discussion group in our Member Centre.
  • we will be offering a webinar for our members that is specifically focused on the impact of the pandemic on small firms.
  • we will be offering a webinar on technology tools that our members can use to engage with their clients remotely.

We are looking ahead to our Lisbon Conference and are cautiously optimistic about welcoming you to join us in Portugal on October 28-30, 2020. We received more than 100 responses to the call for papers, and we sense great enthusiasm about gathering for this conference.

This period marks the longest in recent history that we have not gathered for a conference. ITechLaw will do all we can to support you during these times, and we look forward to seeing you in October. We thank you for your support and wish you and your family safety during these difficult times.  If you have questions about the conference, please contact us at

Best regards,

Charles Morgan
