Richard S. Whitt

Richard S. Whitt is responsible for Google’s strategy and advocacy on all wireline, wireless, and media matters before the Federal Communications Commission, other Federal agencies, and the U.S. Congress.  Most recently he has represented the company’s interests on a variety of broadband policy issues (such as network neutrality), spectrum policy matter (such as the 700 MHz auction and TV white spaces), and “unregulation” of VoIP and other Web-based applications.

Prior to joining Google in January 2007, Mr. Whitt founded and headed NetsEdge Consulting, a public policy consulting firm that provided legal analysis, regulatory strategy and advocacy counsel to Google and other Web companies.  From 1994 to 2006, he worked in the legal department at MCI Communications, where he most recently served as vice president for federal law and policy.  He previously spent more than five years as an associate attorney in the communications practices of two large Washington-based law firms.

Mr. Whitt is a cum laude graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, and a magna cum laude graduate of James Madison University.
