Matthew J. Oppenheim is an experienced entertainment and technology attorney who regularly handles litigation, negotiates technology transactions and provides strategic and legal guidance on Internet and copyright issues for both large and small clients nationwide. He has been actively involved in some of the most prominent Internet and copyright issues. While at the RIAA as the Senior Vice President for Business and Legal Affairs, he oversaw the Napster, Verizon, MP3Board.com, and Aimster litigations, among many others.
After leaving the RIAA, he joined Jenner & Block to co-chair their Entertainment and New Media Practice, where he helped obtain the 9-0 Supreme Court decision in the Grokster case.
Most recently, Mr. Oppenheim has been overseeing the RIAA’s litigation program against P2P infringers. He regularly represents a number of major record companies and music publishers in litigation matters. He has also served as lead counsel negotiating industry-wide technology agreements in the digital rights management arena, and has advised a large private equity firm on investments involving copyright portfolios.
Mr. Oppenheim is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Cornell Law School and a member of the New York, District of Columbia and Maryland bars.
