Joseph Yang specializes in technology transactions, patent licensing and joint venture relationships, particularly in the use of patents as strategic business assets. His experience includes licensing, technology transfer, alliances, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, arbitration, and patent portfolio development.
Previously, Mr. Yang was Counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where he co-founded and later led the firm's Intellectual Property Transactions practice in Silicon Valley.
Mr. Yang is a nationally recognized speaker and author on technology law topics. He chairs the Advanced Licensing Agreements and Advanced Patent Licensing programs for the Practising Law Institute. He appears in Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World. He has co-taught the "Patent Law and Policy" course at the University of California's Berkeley School of Law.
Before becoming an attorney, he was a research engineer in the defense/aerospace and energy industries. He holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School, and a Ph.D. in engineering from the California Institute of Technology, where he has served on the Board of Directors of the Caltech Alumni Association.
