Rahul Matthan is one of India's most well-known technology lawyers. He heads his firm's Technology, Media and Telecommunications, M&A and IP practice in Bangalore. His book, The Law Relating to Computers and the Internet, published in 2000, remains the best-regarded book on the subject and is frequently quoted in legal judgments in India and elsewhere. In an article in the Financial Times, Rahul Matthan was identified as being "one of the new generation of lawyers" and Trilegal referred to as "an example of the new breed of Indian law firm that distinguishes itself from its more traditional peers."
Mr. Matthan has assisted the government of India on a variety of policy-related issues, including the development of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure (along with the Department of Science and Technology). He was invited to participate in a multi-disciplinary review of the larger implications of nanotechnology research in the country.
Mr. Matthan is a frequent speaker at conferences and at top institutions in India. He was a Senior Associate with the National Institute of Advanced Studies, and he has lectured at the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He is a member of ITechLaw and is a co-chair of its annual conferences in India.
