Jim Markwith is Senior Vice President, Intellectual Property and Licensing at Allscripts Healthcare, a global healthcare IT company. Mr. Markwith designed and manages Allscripts’ Patent Program, the IP and Technology Licensing teams, and the Open Source Program. He negotiates and drafts complex IP and technology transactions supporting all product development, the Business Development team, international customer and partnership transactions, and M&A.
Prior to Allscripts, Mr. Markwith was Senior Counsel, Global Licensing, Open Source, and IP for General Electric Healthcare IT. Prior to GE, he was a Senior Attorney on Microsoft’s Intellectual Property and Licensing Team, where he negotiated complex IP and standards related licenses with key industry partners, handled over 40 acquisitions, and was Microsoft’s Open Source Counsel.
Mr. Markwith is an Adjunct at the Graduate Program in Intellectual Property and Policy at the University Of Washington School Of Law, and from 1995 to 2005 he taught IP and Technology law classes at the Santa Clara University School of Law and MBA programs. Mr. Markwith is a member of the California and Washington DC Bars, and received his J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Markwith was a U.S. Navy Pilot and taught Economics at the U.S. Naval Academy.
