Elisabeth Symons

Elisabeth Symons practices primarily in the information technology law area. She assists public sector entities and business organizations in understanding and addressing the legal issues that they face related to technology, including issues relating to the procurement, development and deployment of technology, establishment of networks, use of the Internet, copyright and privacy law. In providing advice to clients, she draws on her background in technology and law.

Prior to joining Miller Thomson, Ms. Symons practised at Goodman and Carr LLP, and prior to that, at Mann & Gahtan LLP, a law firm that established an exclusive association with a leading U.S. technology law firm. Prior to that, she worked in the legal departments of PSINet Limited, iSTAR internet inc., and Alias|Wavefront.

Ms. Symons is co-editor of Mann's Technology Newsletter, and she was a frequent contributor to the Information and Technology Law newsletter published by Carswell. She is a co-author of the chapter on copyright in Electronic Commerce - A Practitioner's Guide (Carswell) and the "Doing Business with Government" chapter of Business Laws of Canada (West). She is a Past Chair of the Toronto Computer Lawyers' Group, and of the Information Technology and Ecommerce Section of the Ontario Bar Association.
