Join ITechLaw and featured speakers Sebastian Schulz of Bundesverband Deutscher Versandhandel (bvh) and Niko Härting of HÄRTING Rechtsanwälte for this informative roundtable on the EU Data Protection Reform, moderated by Peter Huppertz of Hoffmann Liebs Fritsch & Partner.
The European Commission has proposed to enact a Data Protection Regulation, thus unifying data protection law in 27 member states. In 2013, the European Parliament as well as the EU Council are expected to issue detailed statements on the proposal. In the course of 2013, it will become clear if and to what extent the Commission's proposals will become reality.
The proposals are controversial. On February 21st, 2013, we would like to discuss the proposals with a representative of one of the business organizations that will be affected most. Sebastian Schulz of Bundesverband Deutscher Versandhandel (bvh) will explain how e-trade will be affected by the proposed Regulation and why bvh, in an extensive statement, have pointed out that the proposals need to be amended and changed in many respects. Bvh are a key member in the European Multichannel & Online Trade Association (EMOTA) that is involved in many hearings and discussions of the proposal in Brussels.
Jochen Schneider and Niko Härting have published an Alternative Draft for a Regulation. Niko Härting will explain the differences between the Alternative Draft and the Commission's Draft.
