Bio:
Ursula Widmer, Dr. iur., attorney-at-law, is a member of the Swiss bar and founding partner of the law firm Dr. Widmer & Partners in Berne/Switzerland (www.widmerpartners-lawyers.com). She was a member of the academic staff at the Institute of Swiss Private and Comparative Law at the University of Berne; her thesis covered the subject "Liability for software defects". In 1983, she founded her own law firm, which specialises exclusively in Information Technol-ogy, Internet, E-Business and Telecommunications Law. She is a lecturer in Information Technology and Internet Law at the University of Berne. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the journal "datamaster" and has written numerous publications in the field of Infor-mation Technology Law, Telecommunications Law, Internet and E-Business Law. She is co-author of the chapter on Switzerland in M. Lehmann's and C. Tapper's "European Software Law", SWITCH's "Internet Domain Names", the publication "Legal aspects of the Electronic Commerce, secure Internet business transactions", and of the chapters on Switzerland in Bird & Bird's "Internet Law and Regulation".

Ursula Widmer is a member of the German Society for Law and Information Technology (DGRI) and of the English Society for Computers & Law (SCL), and is a member of the board of the German Foundation for Law and Information Technology (DSRI). She is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw) and chairs its International Visiting Associate Program. She was a member of the Swiss Govern-ment's Expert Commission for Cybercrime and is a member of the Swiss Federal Data Protec-tion Commission (federal arbitration and appeal court). Ursula Widmer is widely recognised as a leading expert practitioner in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Internet and E-Business Law.
