Bio:

Steve Mutkoski is a Senior Attorney in Microsoft's Intellectual Property & Licensing Group where he counsels on open source software and intellectual property issues. Steve works with Microsoft business units and executives to formulate company policy for various open source-related matters including: incorporation of open source code into company products, establishment and oversight of company sponsored community projects, participation in externally sponsored community projects, M&A diligence and release of Microsoft source code under a range of source licenses. Steve frequently presents on open source and intellectual property related issues, and has spoken at events such as the Open Source Business Conference and Practicing Law Institute CLEs, as well as academic conferences at the law schools at Stanford, USC and Southwest University. He has published several papers relating to open source issues in the corporate environment including "Addressing Open Source Issues in Product Development" (Computer Law Association Bulletin, vol. 19 no. 4) and "How to Implement Your Corporate Open Source Policy" (Published through Intellectual Property Owners Association). In a previous role at Microsoft Steve worked for several years counseling on copyright and trade secret issues that arose in the course of new product development. Prior to joining Microsoft, Steve spent time at the law firms of Preston Gates & Ellis in Seattle and Latham & Watkins in New York where he worked on IP counseling and litigation matters.
