Bio:
Joris Willems is a senior associate in the Communications, Outsourcing & Technology Group of Simmons & Simmons and is based in the Rotterdam office. Joris assists various clients in the field of IT, Technology, Telecom and new Media. He has a broad practical experience with all involved legal issues and legislative changes and developments in this area. Joris negotiated a fair number of IT/Media technology contracts in various jurisdictions, including the UK, Italy, China, India, US, Australia and South Korea. Joris has considerable experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating various IT and Technology and Outsourcing contracts and advising on (public) procurement of IT services and products and privacy related matters.
Prior to joining Simmons & Simmons, Joris worked as an associate in the Amsterdam office of another major international law firm where he was seconded to the Hong Kong and Shanghai offices in 2004. Joris studied at the University of Amsterdam and at the Columbia University School of Law, NY. He completed the 10-month postgraduate course Information Technology Law at the Grotius Institute in December 2005.
During his studies, he was an editor in chief ad interim of Mediaforum Law Review and a student-assistant at the Institute of Information Law (IViR) of the University of Amsterdam. Joris is admitted to the Amsterdam bar in 1999 and to the Rotterdam bar in 2005. He also worked as a producer-assistant for a Dutch commercial broadcaster (RTL/HMG).
Joris is a member of the International Technology Law Association, the Dutch IT Law Lawyers Association, the Dutch Media and Communications Law Association, the Dutch Association for Information Technology and Law, the Dutch Copyright Association and the Licensing Executives Society Benelux. He frequently publishes articles and gives presentations on Technology related subject matters. He is a member of the Treasury Committee of the Dutch Media and Communications Law Association.
