Ursula Widmer has specialized exclusively for more than 25 years in Information Technology, Internet, E-Business and Telecommunications Law. Ursula Widmer is a former member of the academic staff at the Institute of Swiss Private and Comparative Law at the University of Berne. Her doctoral thesis addressed the subject "Liability for Software Defects". She is a lecturer in Information Technology and Internet Law at the University of Berne and a lecturer in Information Security Law at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). She has written numerous publications in the field of Information Technology, the Internet, E-Business and Telecommunications Law.
She is a member of the German Association for Law and Computer Science (DGRI) and the English Society for Computers & Law (SCL), and she is a member of the board of the German Foundation for Law and Computer Science (DSRI). She is Vice President of the Information Security Society Switzerland (ISSS). She is a former member of the Swiss Government’s Expert Commission for Cyber Crime and a former member of the Swiss Federal Data Protection Commission (Federal Arbitration and Appeal Court).
Ursula Widmer is widely recognised as a leading expert practitioner in Information Technology, the Internet, E-Business and Telecommunications Law. In 2011 Ursula Widmer was recognised by Who’s Who Legal as the world’s leading practitioner in the field of Internet & E-Commerce Law.
She is a Past President of the International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw) and she chairs its International Visiting Associate Program. She is co-chairing ITechLaw’s Eighth International Asian Conference, taking place in Bangalore, India in 2011.
