Joren De Wachter
Founder, Joren De Wachter Consultancy; Brussels, Belgium
Joren De Wachter advises businesses on how to better integrate the Intellectual Property in their technology into their business models, focusing on the areas of software and IT, Internet, web content and new media. His services target three constituencies: existing technology companies with new technology (typically software) that want to set up and structure a business model that will both generate profit and protect their technology; start-ups that need to structure their business from the very beginning so as to provide the best return on investment in their innovations; and investors wanting an independent, knowledgeable review of how a particular technology business deals with its core capital (its intellectual property).
Mr. De Wachter has 20 years of international experience advising public and private companies at every stage of their business development, at the most senior levels. He qualified as a lawyer in both civil law and common law jurisdictions, and he worked in private practice at the Brussels bar before moving to an in-house position, first as International Counsel, then as General Counsel.
Inspired by observing that many businesses struggle to understand the full impact and potential of Intellectual Property Rights arising out of their innovation investments and have problems integrating this knowledge into their business models, he decided to set up his own boutique consultancy in 2008. Since then, his business initiative has seen significant growth, as clients have reacted enthusiastically to this new kind of service.
