Jan Geert Meents is a partner in his firm's German Intellectual Property and Technology Group. He has more than 10 years of experience advising IT companies and national and international businesses. His practice involves a combination of corporate, intellectual property and other legal issues specific to the technology sector. As part of this blend, Jan Geert Meents has focused on complex technology transactions involving the exploitation, leveraging and transfer of IP rights, with the focus on transformative technologies and their impact on corporate enterprises. Consistent with this specialization, his practice involves representing customers and providers in sophisticated sourcing and offshoring transactions, including large-scale IT and BPO projects. Furthermore, Jan Geert Meents is extensively engaged in open source aspects on behalf of vendors and users as well as in data protection and related IT compliance issues.
Earlier in his career, Jan Geert Meents was the author of one of the first books on e-commerce transactions in Germany. He is co-editor of the standard compendium for specialist IT lawyers in Germany and has published a number of articles on technology-related topics. He is a frequent speaker at national and international technology law conferences, and he is a lecturer in IT law at the University of Oldenburg, Germany.
