Rahul Matthan

Rahul Matthan is one of India's most well-known technology lawyers.  His book, The Law Relating to Computers and the Internet, published in 2000, remains the best-regarded book on the subject and is frequently quoted in legal judgments in India and elsewhere.  In a recent article in the Financial Times, Rahul Matthan was identified as being "one of the new generation of lawyers" and Trilegal referred to as "an example of the new breed of Indian law firm that distinguishes itself from its more traditional peers."

Mr. Matthan heads his firm's Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice.  The Trilegal TMT practice has been involved in a variety of high-profile transactions in fields including e-commerce, telecommunications, new media, entertainment, biotechnology, pharma and other new technologies.  The firm currently consults to large international companies as well as some of the largest technology companies in India.  

Mr. Matthan has assisted the government of India on a variety of policy-related issues including the development of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure (along with the Department of Science and Technology) and various aspects of Patent and Copyright policy reform (along with the Ministry of Information Technology).  He was invited to participate in a multi-disciplinary review of the larger implications of nanotechnology research in the country.

Mr. Matthan is a frequent speaker at conferences and at top institutions in India.  He is a member of ITechLaw, and is a co-chair of its annual conference in India.
